On August 25, 2023, at 6:00 PM, the Downey Theater will come to life with the colorful and vibrant rhythms of Ballet Folklorico in the show Mexico Lindo y Querido, presented by California Academy of the Arts (CALIACA), reflecting the rich history and cultural traditions of Mexico.
What is Ballet Folklorico?
Ballet Folklorico is a type of folk dance that originated in Mexico in the 1950s and has gained immense popularity worldwide. It was created to celebrate and preserve Mexican culture by incorporating elements of dance, music, and costume from various regions of Mexico. Throughout the years, Ballet Folklorico has seen significant changes with the introduction of new techniques and styles while still staying true to its roots. CALIACA’s “Mexico Lindo y Querido” show pays homage to this rich cultural tradition by bringing it to life on stage.
